    Welcome to Finnish Biogas Association!

Biogas technology offers an excellent way to deal with organic waste and produce renewable energy and fertilizers, simultaneously improving ecological sustainability and climate protection.

Finnish Biogas Association promotes use and development of biogas technology and its knowledge in the society. The Association wants to influence positive development of the biogas field by taking part in the legislative development, by publishing information and by giving presentations in events organized by the Association or other actors.

Individuals, companies and other communities with interest in the biogas field are welcome to join the Finnish Biogas Association.

    ASSOCIATION

Finnish Biogas Association was founded in 1991 as a non-governmental organization of companies, individuals and associations with interest in the biogas field.

Finnish Biogas Association promotes the use of biogas technology for production of renewable energy for traffic, work engine, power and heat as well as fertilizers. The primary source material of interest is biowaste (liquid and solid) making the association also a waste management organization in addition to a renewable energy organization. The scope of activities includes agricultural energy crops, too. Anaerobic digestion is the core technology, but technologies for production of synthetic biogas (such as thermal gasification of waste wood) and production of renewable methane from other renewable energy sources (such as wind and solar methane by Sabatier reaction) are also included in the field of activities.

Finnish Biogas Association is an independent expert organization giving statements and participating working groups and projects for development of legislation and technology. The association gives expert testimonies for Parliamentary and other decision makers, gives presentations for different interest groups, media and the general public, organizes seminars and participates events organized by other organizations. The association publishes the Finnish Biogas magazine and other publications, and interacts with mass media.

    BIOGAS PLANT REGISTERIES

Finnish Biogas Association began collection of production and usage data from Finnish Biogas plants in 1994. They have been published in co-operation with the University of Eastern Finland, which currently is in charge of collecting the data. Before 1994 consistent data is not available. The exception is data of biogas used in transport. Since 2011 complete statistics from 1941 has been included in the Registry. This data is collected by the Association.

English summary is included in the Registries, except in the first one. They are available at link

    MUNICIPAL DECISION MAKERS’ GUIDES

Finnish Biogas Association has published four guides for municipal decision makers on utilizing municipal biowastes in municipal transport. Guides are available in Finnish, Swedish and Estonian at link.
